Centre to set up 50 new Kendriya Vidyalayas
New Delhi, June 16 (UNI) The government today sanctioned opening of 50 new Kendriya Vidyalayas and also gave approval for regularising 84 such institutions opened during 2003-2004 and 2004-2005.
The decision was taken a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs here, Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee told reporters after the meeting.
The Central schools were started in 1962 with the object of having a uniform standard throughout the country.
In 1965, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan(KVS) was set up by the Centre and registered as a society. The Minister for Human Resource Development is the chairman of the KVS There are at present 928 Kendriya Vidyalayas. They are categorised in four sectors: Civil (449), Defence(350), Project(111) and Institute of Higher Learning(18).
