New Delhi, Jun 16 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Agriculture Kanti Lal Bhuria has urged Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav to start work on the long pending demand of Jhabua district of Madhya Pradesh a rail line from Godhara to Indore, and underlined the need for the early acquisition of land for the purpose.

Mr Bhuria, who belongs to the tribal district of Jhabua in Madhya Pradesh, met the Railway Minister yesterday and said that industrial activities were increasing at a fast pace between Indore, Dhar and Jhabua. Hence there would be no land left to acquire for the important rail line which would pass through Dahod, Sardarpur, Jhabua and Dewas.

Due to the persistent neglect of this demand, its original cost had shot up to Rs 955 crores,Mr Bhuria pointed out and demanded that a sum of Rs 200 crores be earmarked for giving compensation to the farmers whose land would be acquired for the rail line.

Mr Bhuria told the Minister that he had raised this issue before the Prime Minister and the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission too. This rail line, he pointed out, was sanctioned way back in 1989-90 by late Prime Minster Rajiv Gandhi and therefore work should start on it on a priority basis.
