Anbumani warns of action against AIIMS Director Venugopal

Chennai, June 16 (UNI) Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss today warned of action against All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Director Dr P Venugopal for instigating the doctors and students to launch an agitation on the reservation issue.

Talking to newspersons after inaugurating a workshop here, he said that ''some five or six doctors had instigated the students during the anti-reservation stir. The same persons have instigated the present issue also and the government will take action against them,'' he said.

''A handful of doctors of AIIMS are converting the institution of world repute into a 'political hub' rather than letting it remain a 'medical hub' and action will be taken against them,'' he said.

Dr Ramadoss also said the government would demand an explanation from those doctors for making the present issue public.

While talking to UNI last evening, the minister had openly charged Dr Venugopal with instigating the students and the doctors to launch a stir when the centre announced 27 per cent reservation for OBCs in higher educational institutions.

He said the controversy surrounding the the AIIMS was an internal issue and he would settle it. ''I will settle the issue soon after reaching Delhi on Monday,'' he added.
