Acid thrown on sisters, condition of one serious

Ghaziabad, June 16 (UNI) Two sisters today sustained serious burn injuries when a youth threw acid on them in Model Town area here.

The sisters were proceeding towards their Kotgaon residence from work at about 0030 hrs when a youth on a motorcycle threw the acid from a bottle on them and fled, according to sources.

While the condition of elder sister Anupama (21) was serious with nearly 60 per cent burn injuries, her younger sibling Shweta (20) received 40 per cent burns. Both have been admitted to a Delhi Hospital.

They were immediately rushed to a local hospital which declined admission due to seriousness of the case, following which both of them were taken to Delhi for treatment.

A senoir police official said it seems to be a case of an affair gone sour and the suspect has been identified. However, investigations are on to ascertain the facts.

The victims, who worked in Noida, also said as the assailant was wearing a helmet they could not recognise him.
