340 bags ration rice seized

Chennai, Jun 16: Food cell CID police seized 340 bags of ration rice when they were being loaded into a lorry for smuggling into Andhra Pradesh and arrested five persons at Tiruvottriyur in North Chennai last night.

Police said local police came upon the illegal activity during routine patrol and informed the food cell police.

The value of the seized rice and the lorry was put at Rs 10 lakh.

The arrested were identified as Velgani (42), Dhanraj (32) and Thirumalairaj (29), apart from the lorry crew Mohan and Ravi.

All of them were remanded to judicial custody.
