2 held for cheating firms

Chennai, Jun 16: The Central Crime Branch Police today arrested two persons, including a woman, for allegedly cheating two business concerns to the tune of Rs 25 lakh, in the city today.

Police said Ramesh, working as a part-time accountant with the firms, stole cheque books and issued cheques for Rs 25 lakh to his paramour Jaya who deposited them with a bank in Teynampet area.

Following a complaint, the police formed a special team which found him drawing the cash from the ATM of a bank.

He was finally arrested at Saidapet area in the city.

Police recovered Rs 17 lakh in cash and a sophisticated mobile phone from him.

During interrogation, he confessed to the crime. Based on his information, police arrested Jaya.

Both of them were remanded in judicial custody by a local court.
