DORTMUND, June 14 (Reuters) Germany coach Juergen Klinsmann said the introduction of striker Oliver Neuville and winger David Odonkor finally turned the tide in their epic 1-0 win over Poland in World Cup Group A today.

The pair finally killed off 10-man Poland's resistance with Neuville sliding home Odonkor's low cross from the right in the first minute of injury time to grab the winner.

''We wanted to bring more speed into the match and both (substitutes) are fast -- they brought some life to the match,'' a relieved Klinsmann told reporters after the hosts went top of the group with their second win.

''The whole team tried to put pressure on them the whole time. We worked hard and hoped the efforts would bear fruit.

Neuville added: ''Clearly, I was a bit lucky but I think it was well earned. Now we want to win the next match against Ecuador and we'll be first in the group.'' Poland coach Pawel Janas said the late goal had all but knocked his side out of the World Cup at the first stage for the second time running after their early exit in 2002.

''The goal at the very end has ruined our chances. I feel awful,'' he told reporters. ''In the final minute we made mistakes by leaving the midfield empty and our defence had no chance.'' REUTERS DH RAI0329
