K'taka Govt to revive 4 silk reeling units

Bangalore, June 15 (UNI) The Karnataka Government has proposed to revive four silk reeling units in Mamballi, Chamarajanagar, Kollegal and Mudigundam in the next six months at an estimated cost of Rs five crore, Sericulture Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu informed today.

Talking to reporters here, he said the Government, based on the opinion of locals, had decided to revive all the four units, which would provide jobs to more than 1,000 workers. The units would be revived in two phases, starting with Mamballi and Chamarajanagar.

Mr Naidu, who also holds the Small Scale Industries portfolio, said the Government had decided to set up an integrated exhibition centre for handicrafts at Channapatna.

It would be developed as a tourist centre to attract tourists travelling from Bangalore to Mysore, he added.
