Kolkata Port Trust records 60 pc rise in profit
Kolkata, Jun 15 : The Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT) has registered 60 per cent rise in net profit to around Rs 300 crore in 2005-06 over the previous year's profit of Rs 184.57 crore, its chairman A K Chanda said today.
The growth was achieved despite marginal rise in turnover to around Rs 1,100 crore in 2005-06, Dr Chanda said.
The KoPT became the second port in India after Vishakhapatnam by handling 53 million tonnes of cargo in 2005-06 and earned a total revenue of Rs 1,006 crore during the fiscal, he said adding that the port is yet to officially announce the results.
He said the Kolkata Dock System has registered profit for the first time in 2005-06. Kolkata Dock System handled 10 per cent higher cargo in 2005-06 against the last year.
He said Consulting Engineering Services (CES) doing the feasibility study of the two proposed jetties at Diamond Harbour following which location would be finalised. The total project cost is estimated at Rs 200 crore.
