Ismail CPI candidate for RS

Thiruvananthapuram, June 15 (UNI) The CPI today decided to field state assistant secretary K E Ismail for the Rajya Sabha seat from Kerala.

The decision was taken at the CPI state executive meeting here.

Mr Ismail, 64, entered politics through the students movement in 1956. Later, during 1962-64, he served in the Indian Army but was dismissed from service for being a communist.

He is now actively associated with the Kerala Karshaka Thozhilali Federation, the farmer's union affiliated to the CPI. He had also served in different capacities as member of the state executive committee and the National Council of CPI.

Mr Ismail, who lost the recent Assembly elections from Pattambi in Palakkad district, was Minister for Revenue in the Nayanar Ministry.

He is married to M K Sabi and they have three children.
