Girl student dies in road accident

Hyderabad, June 15(UNI)On the third day after the schools reopened, a girl student lost her life in a road accident in Kabirnagar area here today.

Madhuri, a fourth standard student, was run over by a speeding lorry when she was going to school with her elder sister. Madhuri was crushed under the wheels. Her sister, however, escaped unhurt.

Residents of the area who saw the accident, beat up the driver and handed him over to police.

The issue of safety of children going to school drew the attention of the authorities and parents alike last year, when a small girl was run over by a speeding truck right in front of her school and another died when the overcrowded auto in which she was traveling overturned.

The traffic police recently arranged with the school managements different timings for schools in different areas, to avoid traffic congestion.

The Additional Commissioner (Traffic) A K Khan also appealed to rich parents living in the same locality to send their children in one vehicle instead of each sending his ward in a separate vehicle, to avoid traffic snarl. The police also fixed a limit for the number of students a three-wheeler could carry.
