First full session of Kerala Assembly begins tomorrow

Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 15 :The first full session of the newly elected 12th Kerala Legislative Assembly would begin here tomorrow with the address by Governor R L Bhatia.

Informiing this to newspersons here today, Assembly Speaker K Radhakrishan said the two-week-long session, scheduled to end on June 30, is likely to be extended TILL July five to take a decision on the Self Financing college Bill, to be presented on June 22.

As per the schedule, discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the Governor's address would take place from June 19 to 21.

While the presentation of Revised Budget for the financial year 2006-07 and Vote on Account would be held on June 23, the general discussion on it would be held from June 26 to 28.

The Vote on Account-Discussion and voting would be held on June 29 and other government business and private members' business on June 30.

Though more than 20 ordinances were pending before the consideration of the Assembly, nothing could be discussed in the session because of shortage of time, Mr Radhakrishnan said.

The Speaker said steps would be taken to provide an orientation course to the newly elected 64-members in the Assembly.

An electronic devise to remind the members to end their speech in the alloted time would be introduced, he said.

The ruling LDF has 98 seats while the opposition Congress-led UDF has 42 seats in the 140-member House.
