Canadian aid for MP irrigation projects

Bhopal, June 15 (UNI) Seven irrigation projects in Madhya Pradesh will be covered under the Indo-Canadian Environment Facility project this year.

The project, costing Rs 15.34 crore, will be executed with a view to encouraging people's participation in irrigation schemes. The Canadian government will provide 60 per cent funds, state government 20 per cent and the remaining 20 per cent will be contributed by the cultivators in the form of people's participation.

According to official sources, the projects include Samrat Ashok Sagar (Vidisha), Kontcha Tank (Ashok Nagar), Chhapi Tank (Rajgarh), Satak Tank (Khargone), Gora Tank (Chhatarpur), Veer Sagar Tank (Tikamgarh) and Sengwal Tank (Badwani).

Besides carrying out improvement in the canal system and better management of irrigation water, training would also be imparted to the farmers for advanced farming.

The project will be executed till June, 2007.
