Autos for SC/ST in TN: Minister

Coimbatore, Jun 15 (UNI) Tamil Nadu State Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Minister R Tamilarasi today announced the distribution of 200 autorickshaws to members of the SC/ST communities in each of the districts of Coimbatore, Tiruchirapalli and Salem in six months.

Talking to newspersons here, Ms Tamilarasi said the Tamil Nadu Adi Dravdar Housing Develpment Corporation (TASHSCO) will provide finance for the vehicles costing Rs 1.05 lakh each. The government subsidy will be Rs 25,000.

The beneficiaries will comprise 50 women in each of the districts and the vehicles given to them after suitable training.

The scheme will be extended to all the districts of Tamil Nadu in course of time.

Ms Tamilarasi said the government will soon initiate steps to improve basic amenities in SC/ST hostels and additional facilities created where necessary.

District-level SC/ST Welfare Officers will make periodical inspections to check the quality of food served at such hostels.

Earlier, the Minister held a review meeting with the welfare officers from 11 districts of the state.
