Argentina call up Gonzalez for Cambiasso
HERZOGENAURACH, Germany, June 15 (Reuters) Luis Gonzalez will replace Esteban Cambiasso in the only change to Argentina's side for the World Cup match against Serbia&Montenegro tomorrow.
Group C leaders Argentina meet the Serbs in Gelsenkirchen after starting their campaign with a 2-1 win over Ivory Coast in their opening match in Hamburg last Saturday.
Gonzalez, more of a ball-player than the tough-tackling Cambiasso, will give the team extra fluidity in midfield, coach Jose Pekerman told a news conference today.
''The idea is to have the circulation (of the ball) that will allow us to continue getting up (to the opposition box),'' Pekerman said.
Argentina, having taken a 2-0 lead in the first half against Ivory Coast, relinquished the initiative for periods of the second and allowed Didier Drogba to pull one back.
Pekerman denied his thinking was to give Juan Roman Riquelme more freedom, though he said the playmaker was predominantly on the left against Ivory Coast to help contain the attacking runs of Didier Sokora.
''It's not exclusively for Roman. It's important we have equilibrium in all sectors,'' he said.
''It's not about giving Roman more liberty.'' GREAT MATCH Pekerman expects the Serbs to be tough to beat despite losing 1-0 to Netherlands on Sunday.
''Argentina are ready to play a great match whatever way Serbia play,'' he said.
''Not only do they have (Mateja) Kezman up front, there's also (Savo) Milosevic and (Nikola) Zigic, whose height can be a deciding factor.'' The Serbs could opt for the 2.02-metre Zigic rather than 99-cap skipper Milosevic to provide extra aerial threat.
