World class musical fountain in Katra in offing

Katra, June 14 (UNI) The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) is planning a world class laser based sound and light show with musical fountains in Katra to acquaint devotees with the epic story of Mata Vaishno Devi.

A spokesperson for SMVDSB said here today that the project will cost Rs 15 crore and is likely to be completed by April next year.

He said international tenders for the project have been invited and some experienced parties from United Kingdom, Singapore and Australia have shown interest in it. He added that Indian Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) has also shown interest in the project.

The step has been taken in view of the feedback that many devotees to the holy shrine were not very familiar with the legend of Mata Vaishno Devi and many in fact were looking for some traditional idols of Devi Durga or Parvati with the result that sometimes they could not even notice the holy pindies, the spokesman added.

He asserted that the project will also help decongest the yatra route and keep yatris a little longer in Katra town boosting the towns economy. Shows are expected throughout the nights, subject to clear weather, and expected to cost around Rs 50 per person, he added.
