Workshop on revival of traditional media

Shillong, June 14 (UNI) The National Institute of Rural Development (NIRD), an autonomous body under the Union Rural Development Ministry, Hyderabad, is organising a National Workshop on ''Revival of Traditional Media in Effective Implementation of Rural Development Programmes''.

The workshop at the NIRD Campus in Hyderabad would be held on July 20 and 21, 2006 to explore the potential of traditional media in effective implementation of rural development programmes, according to official sources.

There is a need for traditional forms of art like folk songs, folk theatre, puppetry and street play, which can be used for publicising rural development programmes like watershed development, NREGA, Forestry, Housing, Area Development, Water Conservation, Health and Sanitation, Basic Amenities and Food Security, the sources said.

The workshop would be attended by officials from the Ministry of Rural Development, Central Media Units, Media Activists, NGOs, representatives from universities among others.
