Voting for Rajya Sabha byelections tomorrow
Mumbai, June 14 (UNI) Byelections for the Rajya Sabha seat, which fell vacant due to the death of BJP leader Pramod Mahajan, will be held tomorrow.
Industrialist Rahul Bajaj, who has got the support of the NCP, Shiv Sena and BJP, is one of the two candidates while the other candidate is Mr Avinash Pande from the Congress, The voting will start at 0900 hrs and all the members of the Legislative Assembly cast their votes till 1600 hrs. Counting of the votes will be held later.
The party position in the House is as follows: Congress 73, NCP 71, BJP 54, Sena 58, Ind 19, RPI(A), BRP, ABS, Swatantra Bharat party one each, CPI(M) three, PWP two, JSS four and one nominated.
As Mr Bajaj was supported by the NCP, it created tension between the Congress-NCP, the two allied partners in the state government.
While the Congress accused Mr Bajaj of being an anti Dalit as he opposed the reservation, the NCP accused Mr Pande of beating a Dalit officer in Nagpur.
