TN boy upsets second seed Kaushik, easy win for top seed Jishnu

Chennai, June 14 ((UNI) Tamil Nadu's Aditya Elangovan stole the show on the opening day upsetting the second seed Kaushik Pal of West Bengal 19-21,21-9, 21-16 to enter the second round of the Under-19 boys singles in the Krishna Khaitan Memorial All India Junior badminton tournament at the SAF Games indoor stadium.

Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh shuttlers dominated with top seed Jishnu Sanyal and Ankush Jadav scoring easy wins. Jishnu, the top ranked junior in the country, had an easy 21-10, 21-11 win over Tamil Nadu's unseeded C Navin Prasad. But Ankush had to struggle to get the better of Assam boy Bethalam Bhara 21-18, 18-21, 21-18. Another Maharashtra boy Akshay Denalkar defeated Bengal's Sandipen Bannerjee 21-16, 21-15 while Amey Joshi beat L Lokesh of Andhra Pradesh 21-10, 21-14.

Andhra Pradesh's Srujan Nandaluri defeated Oscar Bansal of Chandigarh 21-16, 21-7 while Vikranth Kumar beat Prasad Shetty of Maharashtra 21-18, 21-17 for a place in the second round.

In the girls section, Maharashtra's Sonal More defeated Vaishal Baria of Gujarat 21-16,21-15 while Mudra trounced Vaidehi of Railways 21-15, 21-16.

Madhya Pradesh's Saurav Verma waged a grim battle with Kerala's Shakar Gopan finding his touch after losing the first game. He won 7-21, 21-18, 21-16 while Romet Dodeja beat Assam's Dibya Jyothi Bora of Assam 21-18, 21-13. Kerala's Alwyn Francis beat Karnataka's B S Palgun 11-21,21-11, 21-18.
