Shillong, June 14 (UNI) A day after he joined hands with the rebel Congress MLAs, Meghalaya Minister in-charge for Parliamentary Affairs J D Rymbai today criticised the Congress leaders for seeking support from rival Nationalist Congress Party leader P A Sangma following political crisis in the state.

''I don't understand what made them plead support from Mr Sangma who is against the Congress party,'' Mr Rymbai told UNI last night.

''There is no need of NCP supporting the Congress in Meghalaya when they already had the support of the regional parties,'' he said. He asserted that the regional parties in the state would continue working under the present arrangement.

'' We will not betray the regional parties as they had reposed faith in the Congress in the best interest of the state,'' said the 'chosen leader' of the dissident group.

Expressing shock over Mr Fernandez and Mr Lapang rushing to Mr Sangma's house for seeking support, the dissident MLAs said they were ''upset'' with the move to forge an alliance with the NCP.

Former Home Minister and Spokesperson of the Congress rebel group, Robert Garnette Lyngdoh said he had taken up the matter with the Secretary to AICC president Ahmed Patil.

'' We don't know what had prompted them to meet Mr Sangma when AICC leaders had promised us that they will take our views ( change of leadership) to Ms Gandhi,'' said the rebel Congress MLAs.
