New Delhi, June 14 (UNI) Life has come full circle for Rahul Mahajan today as he returned to his late father's official 7, Safdarjang Road residence after spending a nightmarish fortnight in hospital and jail following a drinks and drugs party.

Rahul had fallen seriously ill and his father's private secretary Bibek Moitra had died after a late night champagne party at the late Pramod Mahajan's Safdarjang Road bungalow on June 2.

A Special Court dealing with the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act cases granted bail to Rahul as the police failed to prove the charge that he was part of any organised drug trafficking racket and thus guilty of a non-bailable offence.

Special Judge Swarnakanta Mehra granted him bail on a personal bond of Rs two lakh and a surety of the like amount. Rahul was asked not to contact any witness or try to tamper with evidence in the case.

He was also asked not to leave Delhi without the court's permission until a chargesheet was filed in the case. Rahul would have to surrender his passport by tomorrow.

Police also plans to question Chairman of the 'Apollo' chain of hospitals Pratap Reddy for fudging of medical records of Rahul and not permitting the police to talk to him even when he was fit to make a statement.

Breaking his silence for the first time after allegedly killing his elder brother and senior BJP leader Pramod Mahajan, Pravin Mahajan said his nephew Rahul, has been made a scapegoat, according to a report from Mumbai.

Evading a direct reply, when asked for a reaction to Pravin's statement, the Congress said, it was a family issue.

''It is a family issue. Pramod Mahajan is no more and, therefore, the Congress would not like to coment on his house,'' party spokesperson Jayanti Natrajan said.

The BJP also sought to distance itself from the unsavoury episode.

Drawing a parallel between Rahul and film star Sanjay Dutt, senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj said, ''Just as the Congress was not responsible for Sanjay Dutt's deeds, the BJP too is not responsible for Rahul's behaviour.'' Police arrested Rahul on June 5, charging him under Sections 21, 25, 27 and 29 of the NDPS Act. He was sent to Tihar Jail three days later on judicial custody till June 22.
