No financial aid from foreign sources for NBA: Medha

Bhopal, June 14 (UNI) Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) leader Medha Patkar today described allegations of her organisation receiving financial aid from foreign sources as baseless.

''The government can get the matter investigated. These allegations are aimed at maligning the NBA. The allegations are made from time to time. However, no one can prove these charges,'' Ms Patkar told reporters here.

She said a Gujarati newspaper had levelled the allegations on NBA for the first time in 1990 but could not prove the charges. The newspaper had sought apology when a defamation suit was filed against it.

Ms Patkar claimed that the organisation had to make payment to several creditors and managed its expenses by collecting foodgrains from volunteers and villagers.

The NBA leader said Gujarat-based Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha leader Amit Thakur had levelled similar allegations and threatened she would move the court against him.

Praising courage of Bollywood actor Aamir Khan for taking a stance over the issue of rehabilitation of the affected, she said the actor was determined over his stance despite all opposition.
