Mob manhandle govt hospital's lady superintendent
Barrackpore, Jun 14 (UNI) The Superintendent of a government hospital in Panihati was manhandled today by an unruly mob after three nurses were transferred, official sources said.
Hearing of sudden tranasfer of the nurses, the local people rushed and gheraoed Superintendent Dr Jayati Chowdhury of Panihati State General Hospital in North 24 Parganas and demanded to revoke the orders.
When she told them that they (nurses) have alerady been released, the mob beat her, sources said.
Local people alleged that they often face inadequate medical assistance from the hospital due to shorteges of staff.
Earlier, the nurses in the hospital virtually suspended their work to protest transfer of their three colleagues, one of them joined here only eight months back, the hospital staff alleged.
When the situation turned worse, chairman of local Panihati Municipality rushed to the hospital and pacified the people.
Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO), Barrackpore, was also informed about the incident.
