Mineral carriage affected, trains cancelled

Ranchi, June 14 (UNI) Despite elaborate security arrangements, long distance transport services and mineral carriages in Jharkhand were adversely affected as the proscribed (CPI Maoist) ultras gave a two-day bandh call.

Official sources told UNI here that extra forces were deployed at sensitive places in view of the blockade. DGP V D Ram and Home Secretary J B Tubid made an aerial survey of the Naxal affected areas yesterday and reviewed the security arrangements.

Meanwhile, railways has changed the routes of Hatia-Jammu Tawi Express, Shaktipunj Express and Varanasi-Ranchi (up and down) intercity express. Two other trains, Palamu Express and Gomo-Barkakan, have been cancelled for the day. Extra precautions are being taken for the safety of railway stations and other railway property.

Reports reaching here from different parts of the state including Lohardaga, Chatra, Garhwa, Hazaribagh, East and West Singhbhum, said that despite the claims of elaborate security arrangements mineral carriage and long distance transport was adversely affected.

In Jharkhand, 18 out of 22 districts are Naxal dominated.

Thousand of people, including several security personnel, have been killed in Naxal violence in the past two decades.
