Lapang to discuss Meghalaya crisis with Sonia
New Delhi, Jun 14 (UNI) Meghalaya Chief Minister D D Lapang is likely to meet Congress President Sonia Gandhi here tonight to discuss with her, the crisis facing his Government following demands for his ouster by about 20 rebel Congress MLAs.
The Chief Minister has been summoned here by the Congress President for consultations before taking any decision on the political crisis gripping the party's state unit.
This follows a visit by CWC member Oscar Fernandes to Meghalaya on June 12 as an emissary of Mrs Gandhi when he took stock of the political situation in the state.
Last night, Meghalaya Parliamentary Affairs Minister J D Rymai, who was chosen the leader of the dissidents,had faxed to Mrs Gandhi informing her that he was ready to take over the mantle from Mr Lapang.
