Karnataka government major police shake-up

Bangalore, June 14 (UNI) In a major reshuffle, the state government tonight ordered transfer of over 340 police inspectors.

In an order issued by the Director General and Inspector General of Police office, over 50 per cent of the police inspectors had been shifted to different places with majority of them posted to Bangalore City.

The major shake-up in the police department assumed significance in the wake of unprecedented violence the city witnessed during the funeral of the Kannada matinee idol Raj Kumar in April, which resulted in the killing of eight people, including a policeman, and damage to properties worth over crores.

Karnataka Chief Minsiter H D Kumaraswamy had also announced to effect major changes in the police set up in the city, saying that the government would shift the police officers who had remained in the city for more than 10 years.
