ISRO project to study shrinking of glaciers

Shimla, Jun 14 (UNI) The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has sanctioned Rs 21 lakh project to study shrinking of glaciers in Chandra Basin of Lahaul and Spiti district in Himachal Pradesh, an official spokesman said.

The project would investigate ''retreat'' of glaciers in the tribal districts using the satellite data of past ten years.

The spokesman said the project has been entrusted to Geology Department of Government Degree College, Dharamsala and Sunil Dhar of Geology Department would handle the four-year project.
