Hand over Cargo-Hub project to MADC, Gadkari demands

Nagpur, June 14 (UNI) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State Unit President Nitin Gadkari has demanded that the ambitious Cargo-Hub project should be handed over to Maharashatra Airport Development Corporation (MADC) immediately.

Talking to mediapersons here yesterday, Mr Gadkari alleged that the Cargo-Hub project was being delayed deliberately as the credit for its launching was being sought by Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel and Minister of State for non-conventional Energy Vilas Muttemwar.

He said Mr Patel has also refused to hand over the Nagpur airport to Multi-modal International Hub-Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN). He also charged the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) with scuttling the project which could be a major project in the process of development of Vidarbha and could change entire face of the region.

At a high level meeting held at Mumbai on January 28 last year attended by Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, NCP chief Sharad Pawar and Mr patel, it was agreed that Nagpur Airport would be handed over in lieu of Rs 250 crore stamp duty exemption, he said.

The delay in handing over Nagpur airport was a ploy to ensure speedy construction of international airport at Pune and even a cargo project at Hyderabad, he added.
