Five-star hotels to display works of young artists
New Delhi, June 14 (UNI) Modern day five-star hotels are to soon resemble palaces of kings in providing patronage to talented artists.
The state-run Ashok Group of hotels across the country will be housing young artists in a new initiative of the India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) to provide a platform to display their works.
Caught between their own unproven potential and an unfriendly market, these emerging artists will now be invited to spend a week as guests of the Ashok Hotel in art camps across the country.
The artists will be given brush and canvas to create their works, which would be permanently displayed at the hotel for sale. The first such art camp will be inaugurated by ITDC Chairman and Managing Director Parvez Dewan at the Ashok Hotel in the national capital tomorrow.
Sixteen young artists will be staying at the Ashok Hotel for a week, according to ITDC officials.
''The artists will spend a week as guests of ITDC and will make two paintings each. All raw material will be provided to them and they will, at the end of the week, present one of these paintings to the hotel and take one back as a memento of their stay at The Ashok,'' an official said.
A series of art camps will be organised in the coming months in Ashok Group hotels across the country, the official added.
Cities like Jaipur and Bhubaneswar have been chosen for the next camps to be held in July and August.
