EC suspends four officials
Hyderabad, June 14 (UNI) The State Election Commission has suspended four officials from Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh for alleged irregularities in connection with the two-phase Panchayat polls beginning on June 28.
Addressing a press conference here today State Election Commissioner A V S Reddy rpt A V S Reddy said the four officials, including an Assistant Revenue Officer from Yadlapadu Mandal had allegedly included ineligible voters in the lists of the polls.
He said the Commission had issued a circular relating to updated list of 15 notified identification documents that could be produced by voters to establish their identity, including Ration cards, passports, driving licence, Pan cards, bank pass books, freedom fighter identity cards and arms licence.
He said the polling officer must note down on the counterfoil of MPTC ballot paper the number of the identification document produced by the elector in order to prevent mismanagement.
He clarified that all employees of the Singareni Collieries Company except those working in the capacity of managing agent, manager or secretary of the company, were eligible to contest irrespective of the government share in the company.
If the government share was less than 25 per cent even managing agent, manager or secretary of the company were eligible to contest.
