Curfew lifted in Kashmir's Kupwara area

Srinagar, June 14: The indefinite curfew, imposed in Kupwara town of north Kashmir yesterday following massive protests over the death of two people allegedly in the security forces' firing, was completely lifted today, official sources said.

They said the curfew was lifted in view of considerable improvement in the situation there.

Earlier, the authorities had announced a two-hour curfew relaxation in the town at 0800 hrs this morning.

The period was later extended and then the authorities decided to completely lift the curfew in view of the improved situation.

The authorities had given a two-hour relaxation in curfew last evening as well.

The entire border district of Kupwara had witnessed unprecedented demonstrations since Saturday over the desecration of a mosque at Zirhama by the Army on June 9.
