CPI(M) local committee member shot dead
Midnapore, June 14 (UNI) A CPI(M) local committee member was shot dead by unknown miscreants at the Belpahari chowk in this district of West Bengal.
Superintendent of Police (Midnapore West) Ajoy Kumar Nanda said the CPI(M) member, Rabi Das, was having tea with his friends at a stall when three masked persons fired from a close range. Das was rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead.
He was a contractor and used to supply road construction materials in the Maoist dominated area.
The CPI(M) called a bandh tomorrow protesting the killing.
Incidentally, the Maoists today called a bandh in the area alleging torture on their activists.
Most shops were closed throughout the day in the Jhargram Subdivision, including Belpahari.
Police and paramilitary personnel were conducting raids in the area to nab the miscreants.
