Channel 2 expands operation to catch Indian TV viewers
Dubai, June 14 (UNI) Riding on the popularity of Indian soaps 'Kyun Ki Saas Bhi Kabhi ...' and 'Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki' among African viewers, Channel 2 Group Corporation has announced plans to expand its television's terrestrial broadcast operations across Africa that would also show films from Bollywood.
Announcing the launch of Channel 2 Movies, a joint venture with the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC), corporation's Chairman Ajay Sethi said the new service would be expanded to other African countries on terrestrial platforms.
The launch here yesterday came closely on the heels of UAE's Channel 729, an associate company of Channel 2 Group Corporation, signing a telecast agreement with KBC, whereby KBC would broadcast Channel 729 free-to-air programmes on its terrestrial channel.
Blockbuster soaps like 'Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki' and 'Kyun Ki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi' with English subtitles are very popular among African viewers, a company statement said.
Channel 2 has a strong network with the Indian film industry.
