CBSE invites applications for 'Single Girl Child' merit scholarship
New Delhi, June 14 (UNI) The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) today invited applications from eligible students for its 'Single Girl Child' merit scholarship schemes.
The ''Offer of Acceptance'', for the students who are the only child of their parents, is based on the result of the CBSE examinations conducted in 2006. The applications can be submitted till July 15.
The Board will award scholarships in three categories-- for class eleven students, professional courses and under-graduate studies, a CBSE statement said.
Under the scheme for eleventh standard students, the candidates must have scored 60 per cent or more in class ten Board examinations and should be studying in CBSE affiliated schools where the tuition fees was not more than Rs 1,000 per month during 2005-06.
The scholarship award is of Rs 500 per month for two years till class twelve which is subject to renewal on a year-to-year basis.
Eligibility for the professional courses scholarship requires the candidate to be a rank holder either in the All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT) or the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEE), both conducted by the Board.
The candidate must also be pursuing a course in medicine or engineering in any Central University or institution controlled or aided by the Union Government.
The Board will provide Rs 1000 per month to the selected candidate for four years, which will be renewed every year.
For Under graduate studies' scholarship, the student must have obtained 60 per cent or more marks in class twelve CBSE examinations.
She must be pursuing under graduate course -- non-medical or non engineering-- in any Central or state Government University or those recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The selected candidate will be given Rs 500 per month for the next three years which will be renewed on a year-to-year basis.
