BJP demands special SC bench for NE in Asom

Guwahati, Jun 14 (UNI) The Bharatiya Janata Patry (BJP)'s legal cell today demanded a Supreme Court bench for Northeast in Asom.

Addressing a press meet here, party's legal cell's national chairman Satyapal Jain said a special bench to look into the matters of NE should be constituted at the earliest. The bench could conduct its hearings in Asom, he added.

Mr Jain came down heavily on the CPI(M) over the latter's stand in the petrol price hike issue.

He alleged that the Left party was maintaining double standards in the matter and exhorted it to clear its position in the matter.

Mr Jain also criticized the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre for its role in the office-of-profit controversy.

He alleged the Congress was using its power at the Centre to protect its leaders by exempting a host of posts from being identified as offices of profit.
