BJP demands roll back of fuel prices

Itanagar, Jun 14 (UNI) Arunachal Pradesh BJP in a memorandum today urged the Governor to use his good office to roll back the hike in fuel prices by apprising the Centre of the adverse effect on the economy.

This land-locked state depends mainly on road communication for supply of products from outside and the price hike has pushed up the prices of essential commodities and cost of travelling and transportation having a direct bearing on the cost of living of the masses.

Claiming that the present UPA government had increased the petrol price by Rs.18.90 and diesel Rs. 15.04 in comparison to rates that existed during the NDA government, the party said the state without any source of revenue would bear the brunt of the fuel price hike.

Thus, the roll back was essential in the larger interest of the common masses, the memorandum added.

Opposing the price hike and demanding roll back, the party had given a 12-hour capital bandh call yesterday.

Meanwhile, a six-member delegation of the party, headed by national BJP secretary&MLA Tani Loffa and state Bharatiya Janata Yuva Manch vice-president Techi Boy along with MPs Kiren Rijiju and Tapir Gao, took part in a satyagraha at New Delhi today, organized by the party against various anti-national activities that had threatened the security of the country.
