BJP condemn ULFA threat to journalists

Guwahati, Jun 14 (UNI) The Asom unit of BJP today condemned the reported threat of United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) to a few eminent journalists of Asom for expressing views and news which are not considered favourable to it by the organisation.

In a release here today, media cell convenor of the party Mr S Bhattacharya said in a democratic society all citizens are guaranteed freedom of speech and expression and this right should not be muzzled with threats of guns.

As sentinels of the fourth column of democracy, journalists have a very important role to play in preserving and strengthening the basic fundamental rights and privileges, he said.

"I strongly oppose and condemn the reported threat to the journalists and express my support and solidarity with them", Mr Bhattacharya said.
