AP Govt to please rain god

Hyderabad, June 14 : With the monsoon remaining dull in Andhra Pradesh, the state government has underscored the need to perform prayers to the rain God.

''Varuna japam'' and ''Sahasra Ghatabhyishekam'' will be held in temples to invoke the blessings of Lord Varuna for copious rains in the state, according to an official release here.

On the advice of renowned Pouranika Sarva Bhowma Malladi Chandra Sekhara Sastry, the two rituals would be performed in the temples from ''Jyeshthamasam'' to the end of ''sravanamasam''.

Preaching ''virata parvam'' and ''Rushya Srunga Charitam from Ramayanam would be done in every temple, it added.
