ACCI lauds DDG for airport

Itanagar, Jun 14 (UNI) Arunachal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) today lauded Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh for giving a green signal to the much awaited Itanagar airport project.

The ACCI also thanked Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) Deputy Director General (DDG) Sushanta Sen for appraising Mr Singh on the poor road and air connectivity of the state which had retarded its industrial growth.

Mr Sen during his visit to Itanagar in May had expressed concern over the poor infrastructure of the state and assured to approach the prime minister and the ministers concerned for immediate steps to herald a new era of economic development.

Informing about his recent meeting with Prime Minister to ACCI President Techi Lala and General Secretary Tarak Nachung over telephone yesterday, Mr Sen disclosed that Mr Singh had expressed his keenness for the development of this sensitive border state and asked CII to facilitate speedy industrialisation.

In response to ACCI's plea to boost the ailing economy of the entire NE, particularly Arunachal Pradesh, Mr Sen has assured that big corporate houses, like Pepsi and Godrej would visit the state soon to explore the possibilities of establishing industries in partnership with the locals in tune with the 'Look East' policy of the Centre.

Mr Lala and Mr Nachung are leaving for Guwahati to attend a CII North East Council meeting there tomorrow to discuss the modalities to encourage private investment by big players in the state.

However, the Chamber felt the necessity of state government amending the industrial policy.
