65 lakh given jobs under Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme
New Delhi, June 14 (UNI) Nearly 65 lakh people have been provided employment so far under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA), which has received overwhelming response, the government today said.
More than 2.66 crore applications have been received for registration and 80.53 lakh people have demanded employment in various states, the Panchayati Raj Ministry said quoting figures received from states.
According to the Ministry, 1.78 crore job cards have been issued to eligible households.
The number of people who have been provided jobs so far is 64.54 lakhs, it said.
The central government has released Rs 6,344.32 crore for funding the flagship scheme of the UPA government that guarantees a minimum of 100 days of jobs for one member of a family in rural India.
The NREGA was enacted in September last year.
