Ultimate bravery saves oil rig

Guwahati, Jun 13 (UNI) The ultimate bravery of an ordinary chowkidar of an oil rig saved the ONGC from a major loss when the ULFA tried to explode it.

According to reports received here, two motorcycle borne ULFA terrorists drove up to Pasakao oil rig near Chepon in Sibsagar district and asked the chowkidars of the LP-3 well to move away.

They then set the bomb, programmed and went away. But one of the three chowkidars, Ratul Mahan not only dared to return to the site but actually found out the bomb. Risking his life, he disconnected the bomb from the wire and then threw it away in a nearby stream. He then went to the nearest Sepon police station to inform them about the bomb.

In between the ULFA militants came back only to find that the bomb was missing. They realized that the bomb did not go off as it was planned. They soon came to know about Ratul's act and threatened to kill Ratul who was by then in the police station. The police then recovered the bomb and defused it completely. A scared Ratul is now feeling insecure and seeking protection from the authorities.
