Two militants killed in Uri

Srinagar, June 13 (UNI) Two heavily armed infiltrators were shot dead by troops in Uri sector in Jammu and Kashmir today, a defence ministry spokesman said.

He said troops guarding the Line of Control (LoC) noticed a group of militants sneaking in from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) this morning.

When challenged and asked to surrender, the militants opened fire. In the ensuing gunfight two infiltrators were killed.

Two AK rifles, two pistols, two wireless sets, two UBGLs with 19 grenades, 13 hand grenades and 40 detonators were recovered from the slain militants, the spokesman said.

This was the first infiltration bid from Uri sector after the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road was reopened for Kashmiris living on both sides of the LoC.

On June 6 the security forces had gunned down nine militants immediately after they had crossed over into Machil sector.
