Suspected LeT operative surrenders

Mumbai, June 13 (UNI) Suspected Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) operative Afroz Khan, absconding accused in recent explosive seizure case of Aurangabad, today surrendered before MCOCA court Judge Mridula Bhatkar.

Anti-Terrorist Squad(ATS) arrested him later and he will be produced in the court tomorrow.

Special Public Prosecutor Rohini Salian said Afroz is the 12th accused to be booked in the case. At the time of surrender, he was accompanied by his lawyer Shahid Azmi.

Other suspected accused in the case are Mohammad Amir Shakeel Ahmed, Zubair Sayyed Anwar, Muzaffar Tanvir, Abdul Azim Abdul Jamir Shaikh, Javed Majid, Afzal khan Nabir Khan, Riaz Ahmed Ramzan, Mohammad Sharif Ahmed, Bilal Razaq, Sayyed Zafruddin and Mushtaq Ahmed Isak.

The ATS seized 16 AK-47, 43 kg RDX, 4000 ammunition rounds and 50 hand grenades during the operation.

The ATS, in a joint operation with the Aurangabad police on May nine, had arrested three terrorists including an activist of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) from near the Ghrushneshwar temple at Verul village and seized arms and ammunition from them.

On the basis of the information received from the arrested militants, the ATS has also arrested eight more persons in three other operations and recovered arms and ammunition.
