SP to collect 'chanda' to buy Sonia car, house
Lucknow, June 13: Taking a dig at AICC president Sonia Gandhi's affidavit before the Election Commission claiming she possessed no car or house, the ruling Samajwadi Party today said it would collect 'chanda' to buy her both.
SP general secretary Amar Singh asked party workers to collect donations to gift ''UP's daughter-in-law'' with a car and a house.
Addressing workers here during a demonstration to protest hike in prices of petrol and diesel, he said although she owned a house in Italy, she had no house in India and neither a car.
Later, talking to reporters, Mr Singh said it was unfortunate that such a senior leader had no such assets. ''Her affidavit claims she had only Rs 20,000. But giving her cash would not be appropriate,'' he quipped.
In a lighter vein, he also criticised Congress for not being able to provide their leader with such basics.
To a poser on the recent statement of an AICC spokesperson that entertainment tax should be imposed on Mr Singh's press conferences, he said at least Congress considered him as an artiste. ''I salute them for the same,'' he averred.
