Robust increase in industry headcount expected in Q3

New Delhi, June 13 (UNI) The hiring intentions of employers in India are expected to be extremely robust in the third quarter of 2006, with net employment outlook of 43 per cent, followed by Hongkong (27 per cent) and Japan (24 per cent), the Manpower Outlook survey said today.

''Of the 4,550 employers surveyed in India, 46 per cent expected their staffing levels to increase, while only three per cent expected a decrease. Besides, 41 per expected no change and remaining 10 per cent unsure of their hiring plans. This shows Indian employers' great optimism about hiring over the next quarter, '' Manpower India Executive Chairman Soumen Basu giving the details of survey said.

The survey demostrates an increase of three per cent over the previous quarter (Q2) and nine percentage points on a year-over-year basis.

On key industry sectors' hiring plans, Mr Basu said, ''Services sector in India is showing more growth in hiring plans (50 per cent), followed by mining and constuctions (49 per cent).

''Net employment outlook of bullish 50 per cent for the services industry sector represents an eight per cent increase quarter-over-quarter and a six percentage point increase year-over-year.'' Out of all the seven industry sectors taken under consideration, only 'transport and utility' sector showed a decrease of nine percentage points in hiring, reporting an outlook of 37 per cent for Q3, 2006, he said.

Further, the employers in all the four regions of India are expected to increase their work-force, with North leading the telly with net employment outlook rise at 49 per cent.

However, the expectations in the increase of workforce in the East and South regions is 42 per cent each, while in West it is likely to be at 41 percentage points in the next quarter.

Globally, the employers in 23 of 25 countries surveyed expect to add to their workforces in the third quarter of 2006, except in Germany, where a negative hiring outlook was reported.

Manpower Employment Outlook Survey is conducted quarterly to measure employers' intensions to increse or decrease the number of employees in the workforce during next quarter.
