Prenatal Board meets here tomorrow; Ramadoss to attend

New Delhi, June 13 (UNI) The central supervisory board of the Pre-conception and Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques (Prohibition of Sex Selection) Act, (PC&PNDT Act) meets here tomorrow to examine implementation of the Act to give it more teeth and also discuss on ways to sensitise the general public.

Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Anbumani Ramadoss will inaugurate the meet which will also be attended by Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Panabaka Lakshmi and Union Minister of State (independent charge) for Women and Child Development Renuka Chowdhury.

The participants will also consider the reports of the national inspection and monitoring committee, set up to monitor the implementation of the Pre-natal Diagnostic Technique (Regulation and Prevention of misuse) Act in the states and union territories.

Among other issues, the board will discuss guidelines for utilising the Registration fee collected under the Act on a number of activities. These include conducting workshops for sensitising authorities, NGOs, private practitioners, organising information, education and communication activities like seminars and conferences, dissemination of information through ads, film spots/messages on cable channels, organising debates in schools and colleges, organising rallies of students and concerned citizens on the issues, arranging decoy customers to catch violators of the Act, giving incentives to informers giving information on erring doctors and clinics.

The meeting will discuss accreditation and recognition of institutions for imparting training to doctors in ultra-sonography and image scanning. It is also expected to identify authorities for search and seizure of clinics and premises under the PC&PNDT Act.
