Partial strike in Kashmir against Handwara incident

Srinagar, June 13 (UNI) A partial strike was observed today on the call of the Hurriyat Conference (Mirwaiz) in protest against the desecration of a mosque and the holy Quran allegedly by security forces.

Shops and business establishments in the civil lines, including Lal Chowk, the nerve centre of the summer capital, and adjoining areas remained closed. However, life was near normal in the outskirts and uptown areas.

Traffic was plying on all routes. However, majority educational institutions remained closed after management declared holiday in response to the call.

A report from Baramulla said total shutdown was observed in the district while it was partial in Sopore.

However, life was normal in south Kashmir districts of Anantnag and Pulwama with all shops and business establishment functioning normally and traffic plying on all routes as usual.
