Mann permitted to go to Pakistan

Chandigarh, Jun 13 (UNI) Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) president and former MP Simranjit Singh Mann was today permitted by the Punjab and Haryana High Court to visit Pakistan.

This was ordered by the vacation bench of Justice K S Garewal while disposing of the petition preferred by Mr Mann.

Punjab Home Secretary has been directed accordingly. However, the permission would be valid from June 13 to 23. The orders have also been issued to release the passport of the petitioner to facilitate the visit with instructions to deposit the same back with the police station, city Kotwali, Amritsar where it is lying at present in the wake of court orders in connection with a case of delivering seditious speech.

Mr Mann is scheduled to visit Lahore in connection with the 400 years celebrations to mark the martyrdom day of Guru Arjan Dev. The devotees are to take out a procession on June 14 in Lahore in this connection, where among others, Shiromani Akali Dal president and former chief minister Prakash Singh Badal, Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC), president Avtar Singh, Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) president H S Sarna are taking part.
