LB Polls: CPM snaps ties with Cong, TRS gives ultimatum
Hyderabad, June 13 (UNI) Even as the CPI(M) parted ways with the Congress and revived ties with the Opposition TDP for the two-phase panchayat polls, the TRS set a deadline till tomorrow evening for finalisation of seat sharing with the ruling party.
Filing of nominations for the polls opened today.
Upset with district level talks not making much headway, senior TRS leader and Union Minister of State for Rural Development A Narendra said the Congress should not delay the seat-sharing exercise any longer. 'We will be constrained to finalise our course of action, if no understanding is reached at the local level by tomorrow evening', he asserted.
The TRS decided to join hands with the Congress mainly to defeat the 'anti-Telangana' TDP in Telangana, former TRS Minister Harish Rao said.
According to reports received by the State Election Commission, 259 candidates, including 78 from the Congress, 39 from the TDP and 52 from the CPI(M) filed their nominations for MPTC seats.
Twenty-seven candidates, including eight from the CPI(M) and four from the Congress filed nominations for the ZPTC seats.
