Chennai, Jun 13 (UNI) Madras High Court has granted anticpatory bail to former All India Chess Federation (AICF) Secretary P T Ummer Koya, who apprehended arrest in connection with a signature forgery case.

Granting bail, Mr Justice K N Basha said Mr Koya should be enlarged on bail in the event of arrest or his surrendering before the court.

Mr Koya should also execute a bond for Rs 25,000 with two sureties each for a like sum to the satisfaction of the 11th Metropolitan Magistrate (MM), Saidapet. Mr Koya should appear before the Central Crime Branch police everyday at 1730 hrs for one week.

The Judge also directed him to surrender before the MM Court for executing the bond and furnishing sureties within two weeks.

The prosecution case was that Mr Koya, as AICF Secretary in 1991, forged the signature of Mr Manuel Aaron, then AICF Vice-President.

Mr Koya had filed the anticipatory bail plea after Mr Aaron filed a petition before the MM court seeking a direction to the police to register a case against Mr Koya for offences under Secs 406, 420, 465, 466, 468, 471 and 477(A) of the IPC.

Mr Aaron told UNI today Mr Koya had forged his signature on an application for 'secretly' registering the Federation at Kozhikode, despite being fully aware that it was already registered in Chennai.
